The Baby-Sitter’s Club
When I was 18 and newly graduated from high school, I joined a volunteer group at Al Tufula center in Nazareth city called “I’m from this city”. The volunteer group purpose was to corroborate young Arab girls from Nazareth and other villages from the north. The Entrepreneurship increases the capacities of us as youths, increases our knowledge on various issues and provides us with volunteer opportunities to increase our network and skills. We volunteered at the Nursery and took care of babies and toddlers, women with disabilities, and we took trips to neglected and poor areas.
The Entrepreneurship was unforgettable experience and was a big part of the woman I am today. it was important to include this life experience in my creative work,That’s why I decided to include it at my final project in Wizo The NB Haifa School of Design.
The book “Kristy’s Big Day” from the series The Baby-Sitters Club By Ann M.Mrtin reminded me of the experience I had at the Entrepreneurship. As the book talks about a tween girl whose name is Kristy. Kristy is the founder of the baby sitters club. Kristy’s mom is a divorced woman who wants to get married from another divorced man. there will be 14 kids at the wedding. There comes the baby sitters club to help out, and take care of 14 kids for a week as the adults prepare for the wedding.
In this project I wanted to integrate the story of the book to the experience I had at the Entrepreneurship in the arab society. Arab society is still critical and rejecting about the fact of divorced Arab women getting married. I changed the characters in the story to my real life friends who were at the Entrepreneurship. As we took care of babies (we were like real life baby sitters club). I changed the names to Arab names instead of American, and lastly illustrated 13 pages and 14 vignettes which had a taste of the arab world and traditions. I wanted to make the story a happy experience as you open the book, as if a divorced arab woman who will get married is celebrated in a normal way.
